catch the wave

considering that mylo's first word was "wa-wa" (water-used to refrence the ocean) & he spent the majority of his short 12 months at the ocean's edge it seemed only sensible to celebrate his first year with a wave party. 

disclaimer: i've decided to slow down a bit when it comes to kids' parties. frankly, i don't have very much time or energy to invest into parties anymore. but i refuse to let their birthdays go unnoticed. i was limited in what i could do since we had only arrived in california a few days before, in fact, most everything was put together in the 24 hours prior to the party commencement. fortunately, we were at my parents house for mylo's big day & we were able to celebrate by their pool in the company of all mylo's best friends-his cousins. we had a balloon pinata in the shape of a wave & a wave fishing booth, but most of the party was spent swimming in the pool & splashing in the hot tub-ok by me! mylo wasn't too into the water, the 75 degree water temperature was too cold for his thin hawaiian blood. he spent most of the afternoon walking around the backyard, chasing maddie the dog (his favorite guest), & getting smoothered by his loved ones. he was not at all interested in opening presents. his favorite was a hand-me-down lullaby baby from his biggest brother-the kid is a sucker for stuffed animals/babies. he picked at his cake for a minute until t.j. rolled up (t.j. has a pretty accurate sweet detector & no sweet escapes his mouth.). he was a little more into the cake once he saw t.j.'s reaction.

mahalo nui loa to all his aunties, uncles, cousins, & papa & grama for making his special day so special. 

two days later we celebrated todd's big 30th with a cereal bar & breakfast party-his favorite meal. then todd & i took full advantage of our favorite babysitters (grama & papa) & went on the longest date we've ever had dinner at lucille's, car shopping, hangover 3, target, & pizookies at bj's-30 can't possibly get more exciting than that!
